Founder story

Why HKHL exists

Told in our founder's own words.

"I was the voice in the room when no one else spoke their language. That is when I understood what was being lost."

Happy Kids Happy Life was created from firsthand experience. While working in Los Angeles as an interpreter with unaccompanied minors, the founder witnessed the realities these young people face on arrival in the United States: family separation, abandonment, trauma, and the risk of being misdirected by systems that fail to recognize their potential.

Many of these young people are bright, resilient, and ready to contribute. Many have already crossed continents alone. What they lack is not capacity — it is a guide who speaks their language, knows the maze, and treats them like a future, not a case number.

This platform exists to be that guide.

Why New York

New York City is home to one of the largest French- and Wolof-speaking West African communities in the United States. It is also a city of public hospitals, free schools, pro-bono lawyers, and committed volunteers. Few cities offer that combination. Happy Kids Happy Life is here to connect those resources to the people who need them most.

Why this approach

We chose to build a digital-first organization because young people arriving today carry a phone before they carry an address. We chose multilingual because the cost of mistranslation, for a child, is measured in years of their life. We chose privacy-first because the families we serve are watched in ways most New Yorkers never have to think about.
